About this document

A possession letter is the buyer’s written confirmation that the property was handed over on a particular date, with the keys, meter readings and condition noted. It is useful for builder-buyer handovers and for resale purchases, and it fixes the date from which the buyer is responsible for the property.

Add dated photographs with the Photos option. Everything is made in your browser and nothing you type is stored on our server.

Who signs: Buyer (signs), and the Seller or developer's representative handing over.

Before you sign

  1. Inspect the property fully before signing: walls, floors, doors, windows, fittings, water and electricity.
  2. Write every defect in the letter. Do not sign a clean letter if work is pending.
  3. For a new project, check the occupancy or completion certificate before accepting possession.

After you print

  1. Both sides sign. Attach the dated photographs if you added them. Keep an original each.
  2. Apply to move the electricity, water and property tax records into your name.

Frequently asked questions

Should I sign a possession letter if some work is pending?

You can, but list the pending work in the letter and state that your rights under the agreement remain. Never sign a plain "all complete" letter if you can see defects.

Do I need photos?

They are strongly recommended. Dated photographs of every room show the condition on the day you took possession.
